You know how important your eyes are. So do we. When your eyes are open, 2/3 of the the brain’s electrical activity is devoted to processing visual input… so Nature thinks your eyes are important, too!
There many different diseases that can affect the eye and visual system. Some of them lead to vision loss, and some do not. Conditions like cataracts can be permanently cured, whereas diseases like glaucoma and macular degeneration have no cure but can often be controlled with proper management.
At Tenafly Eye, we employ state-of-the-art technology for the early and accurate diagnosis of sight-threatening conditions, such as the Humphrey Visual Field Analyzer and optical coherent tomography (OCT), which is akin to a CT scan of the most delicate layers of the eye (but using harmless infrared light instead of X-rays). We also use some of the most advanced treatment therapies and techniques available, including:
SLT photoregeneration [GLAUCOMA]
As a first-line alternative to eyedrops, this procedure safely lowers the eye pressure in patients with glaucoma, with an effectiveness equivalent to the best glaucoma eyedrops. It is not meant to be viewed as a “cure”, as the effect is not permanent and may last several years, but it can be safely repeated several times. In many cases it may be used instead of eyedrops.
Infiniti Ozil phacoemulsification [CATARACT]
The most advanced cataract removal system, combined with advanced techniques we use that minimize wound size and reduce inflammation (you don’t even need stitches or an eye patch afterward), allows for rapid healing and fast visual recovery.
Alcon Restor and Toric intraocular lenses [CATARACT]
In a cataract removal, using these highly specialized intraocular implants (IOLs) respectively give the eye multifocal vision (ability to see far and near at the same time) and permanently correct astigmatism (neutralizing the blur that comes from an imperfectly shaped eyeball).
WaveLight excimer laser [LASER VISION CORRECTION]
The world’s fastest laser used in LASIK and surface laser procedures, its “wavefront-optimized” ablation profile not only allow for accurate results, but drastically reduces the risk of night time glare and haloes.
Ellman Surgitron “radio scalpel” [EYELID SURGERY]
This incredible device employs radio waves delivered at the tip of a specialized handpiece to deliver absolutely precise cutting with minimal blood loss and tissue damage. It is the perfect instrument to use in almost any kind of eyelid-related surgery because it allows for rapid healing while minimizing scarring and bruising.
